In 2019 Fortnite was arguably the biggest game on the planet. Remarkably though, Fortnite made demonstrably less money than in 2018.

A year prior Epic Games announced they'd generated a massive $2.4 billion from the Battle Royale game. But a year later Nielsen's video game firm SuperData announced that profit was down 25% from the year prior.

That being said, Fortnite was still the No. 1 game of the year, despite the losses.

However, despite this huge financial success there's continually rumours doing the rounds online that suggest Fortnite is shutting down.

Whilst the Fortnite Chapter 2 launch was a huge event, the overriding feeling is that fans are unhappy at the games lack of updates since Chapter 2 releases.

That being said, you'd have to be truly bonkers to think that Epic Games was planning to just shut up shop and call it a day.

In fact, if you believe what some of these internet pranks suggest, Minecraft and Roblox are also shutting down in 2020.

Which means at this rate all the multi-million pound games earning games will be gone for good. Except Call of Duty and FIFA.

We won't escape those yearly releases anytime soon.

Sorry, we've gone off track, the point is, if you're genuinely wondering if Fortnite is shutting down, we've got everything you need to know below (don't worry, it's good news).

Is Fortnite shutting down in 2020?

Thankfully no, the rumours of Epic Games shutting down Fortnite servers in 2020 are well wide of the mark.

This isn't the first time we've seen these rumours doing the rounds.

Famously in 2018 several fake 'deleted tweets' from Epic Games spoofed fans into thinking the game was shutting down, in response to a 'PUBG lawsuit'.

Those tweets read: ''Due to the law suit against PubG on copyright infringement. We are sorry to inform you that Fortnite Battle Royale Will be coming to an end May 24, 2018. Save the world will still be in development and we will roll out ASAP. Thank you all for the support.'

Again, they were nonsense.

But this time around, in 2020, the rumours appear to original from prank websites such as React2424 and Channel45News which attempt to try and pass as real news outlets, despite looking terrible.

That being said, it's easy to understand why people could be duped, when you see the headline and small elements like '59232 Shares' in bright red that make it designed to fool people.

A message on both 'fake' websites read as follows:

React2424 – 'Fortnite Has to much players To handle Everysince the black hole entered the fortnite world went away then a new world came back But Turns out it was a Bug so Guys Fortnite is Shutting Down enjoy the last few months????'

Channel45News – 'Due to all the hate and dis function epic games fortnite will be shutting down in 2020. Epic reanforser Tim Calloway tweeted this morning that fortnite will be taking its fault in 2020. Epic will be focusing on there business and how they can adapt it to make it better. More information at www.channel45news.org'

But again, it's all nonsense.

So let's make it clear once and for all. No, Fortnite is not shutting down in 2020 .

These will include all the details of what is being changed on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and Mobile.

Epic Games has confirmed that downtime will begin at 9am this morning, with server status set to be offline.

During this time, there will be no online games available to join, with the downtime also affecting Fortnite Save the World.

When servers do go back online, players will be required to download a new patch before returning to live games.

Fortnite Update 6.10 is being deployed today and will include new Season 6 content from Epic Games.

The development team have already revealed that they are deploying a brand new vehicle today.

The official description suggests that the vehicle will have a boost function for extra speed.

'Charge the boost to crash through structures or get some air!' reads an Epic post.

There are also rumours that the Fortnite Gifting system is going to be released today, although nothing has been confirmed by Epic Games on the matter.

The new patch will also include bugfixes for both Fortnite Battle Royale and Save the World modes.

The PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and iOS update will make one or two fixes that were absent from last week's content patch.

This includes a fix for a problem in which an unrendered Starter Island appears during the loading screen.

Epic explains more on Trello: 'While loading in, players may notice an unrendered version of the Starter Island appear for a short time, then be replaced with the loading screen again until the map fully renders.'

Fortunately for fans, the issue will be fixed in the next release.

When scheduled maintenance has been completed today, Epic Games will notify fans on Twitter.

There will also be an announcement when the latest patch notes have been released on the official Epic Games website.

'Get revved up! Patch v6.10 rolls out tomorrow, Tuesday, October 16,' a message from Epic Games reads.

'Patch Notes will be available once downtime begins at 4 AM ET (0800 GMT).'
